Message from Betty Palmieri

My name is Betty Palmieri. I am your Local President. I have been involved with OPSEU for approximately 20 years. I am a General Duty Medical Laboratory Technologist. I work in the specialty of Immunohistochemistry in the Anatomical Pathology Department. I have been working at St. Joseph's Healthcare for almost 22 years.I am proud to be a member of OPSEU. I have learned a lot from the union and continue to learn with all the changes which we face.


I would encourage all members to take advantage of the education offered to you by the union in order to become more informed about your rights. Together we can build a stronger union. I would like to explain to the members who do not know the structure of OPSEU how the organization is prearranged. OPSEU is divided up into 7 regions across the province. We are situated in Region 2. OPSEU has three divisions within its organization. They are OPS, BPS and CAAT. OPS stands for Ontario Public Servants which represents the Ministry workers, BPS include Broader Public Sector which include the hospital/healthcare professionals/workers, ambulance workers, long term care workers and mental health workers. OPSEU also represents academic and support staff working for Ontario's Community Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology (CAAT). We, Local 206, belong to the BPS division.

We, the executive, are very excited about this web site in hopes that communication will be improved. We are hopeful that we will see an increase in membership involvement. The Local's strength will depend on the member's participation in local activities, including General meetings. With many changes ahead in the world of healthcare, it will be most important for all members to check this website for updates. Also it may be informative to link to our head office website. Important dates will be found on the OPSEU website and our local website. There will be many changes in the near future for most health care providers and we will try to have the information as current and up to date for all our members.
