What does the Union do for me?
 
  1. Negotiates with the employer regarding terms and conditions of your employment.
  2. The union represents members when there is a dispute between member and employer.
  3. The union helps protect our rights in the workplace.
  4. The union addresses the issues of concern that affects us as residents of Ontario.

Why should I sign up?
 

The amount of signed members increases funding for additional resource purchasing. As a signed member, there is a stronger voice for all members.

Every employee is a dues paying non-member until you sign up (fill out a membership card). As a signed member you will have access to all information sent from Central OPSEU.


When/where are the meetings?
 

The Local Executive Meetings ('LEC') are held the fourth Wednesday of every month.

The Annual General Meetings ('AGM') are held approximately three times per year. We encourage all members to attend.

Who can attend meetings?
 

All OPSEU 206 members are encouraged to attend all meetings.

How much do I contribute from my salary toward OPSEU?
 

You pay approximately 1.575% of your bi-weekly wage allowances. Dues are 100% tax deductible.


What does the L.E.C. do?
 

The Local Executive Committee is an elected body that provides leadership to the local including:

a) managing locals funds and ongoing campaigns

b) providing on-going education to the membership.

c) representing the members at labour management meetings.

What is the relationship between our OPSEU Local 206 and OPSEU Central?
 

Our dues go to Central OPSEU office in Toronto, but a portion is returned to us for our use on local issues. The Central office will use the members' dues provinces wide campaigns and to provide legal representation and staff support for local issues.

I don't like what the union is doing, what can we do about it?
 

OPSEU is a democratic organization. Decisions are made by majority members who vote on issues at meetings. Members can speak to issues, and influence the course of action. If you want to change something you have to participate.
